Kirana – Back in the water after two years: a new beginning

At last: after two years on land, our beloved floating home, Kirana, is finally returning to where she belongs: the sea. This journey has been anything but easy, but now we are standing just before one of the most important moments in a very long time. The final jobs will be finished tonight: a new starter battery will be installed and the antifouling applied to the keel and rudder. Tomorrow morning comes the decisive step: the tehnički pregled, the technical inspection. After that, at last, it will be time to cast off.

The past two years have asked a lot of us. After the accident in September 2022, Kirana spent a long time on the hard in Pomer, and little by little we rebuilt her. The damage to the bow, the shattered anchor roller and the cracks in the GRP are now part of the past. Every part we brought back into order moved us a little closer to this moment. The sailing boat that has given us so many adventures and memories is ready again to write new chapters with us.

Over the past weeks we have worked hard to meet all the technical requirements. Tonight the last work will be completed. The new starter battery will make sure our Volvo Penta MD 22 engine starts reliably, and the fresh antifouling will protect Kirana from the relentless forces of the sea so she can glide through the water quickly and safely.

Tomorrow the official tehnički pregled is scheduled: the technical inspection that makes sure everything is operational and complies with Croatian regulations. We are confident that Kirana will pass the test without any problems. Then comes the moment we have waited for so long: the cranes will set Kirana back into the water.

It will be an emotional moment to hear the waves against the hull again at last and to feel the gentle lift that tells us Kirana is back in her element. Two years on land have taught us patience and perseverance, but it was worth it. Now that our boat is repaired and ready, we can hardly wait to head out to sea again.

Where will the journey take us next? We are leaving that open. Perhaps along the Croatian coast, where the sun makes the crystal-clear water of the Adriatic sparkle, or perhaps farther out, where new adventures and undiscovered anchorages are waiting. Whatever comes next, we are ready to set the sails and keep living our dream.

Kirana is more than just a boat to us. She is our home, our refuge and our gateway to the world. And now, after all the challenges we have mastered together, we feel stronger and more connected than ever.
