Galešnijak
Did you know that Croatia has an island shaped like a heart?
Galešnijak lies between Zadar and Biograd na Moru. With its 0.132 km2 and a coastline of 1.55 km, it is genuinely sweet. From its highest point, 36 metres above sea level, you also get a bit of a view. The island is much more suited to relaxed barbecue evenings and, of course, drone shots...
As for the two stripes: we speculated about them for a long time ourselves and were often asked what they were. For a long time we had no answer, until someone told us the story behind them.
A winegrower had simply planted vines on the island, exactly in those two strips, and by chance Croatian television came by. They only wanted to make a report about the shape of the island. The winegrower, probably afraid he had now been discovered, drove the TV crew away. That was precisely how it came out that there were vines on the island, and that they had never been approved. The vines were then removed, and now people are waiting for nature to take the area back and cover the island evenly again.
Mooring / anchoring
There is no real jetty, at most a concrete block lying in the water. There are no mooring lines or buoys, but the island is perfectly suited for anchoring. Note, however, that anchoring is forbidden on the south side of the island. There, at least according to the nautical charts, lie historical wrecks from earlier times. On the north side, however, anchoring is both allowed and relatively well protected.
